New Music Releases for 4/22/14

Quick rundown of good stuff out yesterday:

Augustana - B (classic.)
Kelis - A (amazing soul voice mixed with a little R&B and big band? dig it.)
Neon Trees - B (the teen pop you’d expect)
The Apache Relay - B+ (not much else as endearing as “Katie Queen of Tennessee”; they’ve done a great job distinguishing themselves from the sound of that famous London band they toured with a couple years ago)
Iggy Azalea - A (dangggg. it’s been a minute since I stumbled across hip-hop I enjoyed. must be that T.I. touch. fans of yonce will love this.)

I watched a pit terrorize a small maltese yesterday on a train not unlike this MUNI bus. The scene was sad and frightening and dumb all at once. The owner could hardly contain the fierceness of his dog. Eventually the train conductor asked/demanded the guy move to the back or get off. Two stops later another guy with a pit tried to board and the conductor flat out said “NO.” As discriminatory as it was, everyone in the front of the train cheered.

Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant Makes Passengers Laugh with Her Hilarious In-Flight Safety Comedy Routine

Yes, this lady is funny. Yes, it’s nice to break up the monotony with comedy so that people actually *listen* to the safety rules. But! This isn’t new. I’ve flown SWA a lot in the last decade—it’s my preferred carrier; no competition—and I can say this isn’t new or unique. A lot of her jokes in this video I’ve heard time and time again. Lots of SWA flight attendants are funny. (!) They have personalities. (!) They’re warm. (! Probably something related to SWA being a Texas-based operation? Probably.) They are not robots. (!) That’s SWA for ya.

All this to say… Why her? Why does she get the recognition on Ellen when most of these jokes are regurgitated/recycled? Why not the flight attendant on my AUS-DCA flight just two weeks ago? Dude was hilarious. Why not the lady on my MCI-AUS flight in February? Was it because she wasn’t as good-looking?

This is like when a kid goes missing and it becomes the news story of the week…when in fact kids sadly go missing everyday.
